2006 UK Chinese Senior Citizen Award


mslimLondon, 30th November: In response to Spectrum Radio’s ‘Respecting our Senior Citizen’ campaign, Dragon Page nominated Mrs Shu-Pao Lim MBE of Great Wall Society to enter the 2006 Top 10 UK Chinese Senior Citizen Election to praise for her contribution to our community, and was very pleased with the results which was announced last night in London.

Mr Julius Tsui, the Founder and CEO of Dragon Page, said, “this is just a little token to show our great appreciation to our senior citizens, such as Mrs Lim, who have been unconditionally working so hard behind the scene to help our other Chinese people in the UK for so long. We have a lot to learn from them.”  

Tsui continued, “We also like to thank Spectrum Radio for giving us this opportunity to stop, reflect, and make time to communicate more with our senior who play a significant role in passing our rich Chinese culture to the next generation, and ensuring great values live on with us.  We have been blessed by so many of these elderlies.”

The 2006 UK Chinese Senior Citizen Award Presentation Ceremony took place last night at the UK Chinese from Vietnam Friendship Association’s golden melodies charity concert held at the Super Star Chinese Restaurant Excel. All guests enjoyed this double meaningful event which ended in a lasting note that echoed with happy memories.

About Mrs Shu Pao Lim MBE (www.gwsociety.org.uk )

Mrs Lim came to London in 1959. After bringing up her four sons, at the age of 50, she went to Oxford to study Social Administration.  In 1978, she became the first Chinese Community worker in the UK, employed by Camden Council as a Specialist Chinese Community Worker with the Chinese in Camden.  

Mrs Lim is the founders of Camden Chinese Community Centre (CCCC) and Great Wall Society, and the main force behind the opening of the first Abbeyfield house for older Chinese people in Camden in 1993.

Founded in October 2006 and chaired by Mr Van Minh Duong, the UK Chinese from Vietnam Friendship Association aims to strengthen the friendship and cooperation among UK Chinese, and promote our Chinese culture in the UK at the same time, which in turn will make Chinese easier to integrate with the UK society where we live and do businesses with.
